Scrambled
The pride and joy of Jerry Duffy of Twin Falls, Idaho, is his 1981 CJ-8, "Scrambled." Jerry says he built this super-clean rig around the motor, and with Scrambled at the ready he is prepared to take on any challenge that TTC might present.
One look at this CJ-8 and you know it was built with a mission in mind -- to wheel anywhere, anytime. This serious Jeep isn't unlike a battleship in color, and is surely built just as stout. Replacing 16-inch guns and armor plating are bulletproof Dynatrac 60 axles and heavy-duty rock protection. Jerry's truck also has a dose of luxury, because no one ever said 'wheeling has to be uncomfortable.
Open up the hood and you'll see a beautiful Chevrolet ZZ 502ci V-8, which has been massaged with a torquier camshaft and Chevy TPI fuel injection. Block-hugger headers allow the mill to slot into the Jeep's engine room. Jerry estimates 400 hp and says 600 lb-ft of rock-churning torque are available just off idle.
The front suspension uses a triangulated three-link with Currie Johnny Joints, King coilovers, and Eibach springs. Steering this ship is made a lot easier with the addition of an AGR Rock Ram and a Dodge pitman arm. This Dana 60 is armed with an ARB Air Locker.
Also packing an ARB Air Locker, the rear Dynatrac 60 articulates via a triangulated four-link with Alcan elliptical springs controlled by King shocks. And how about that rear steer?
