Buzzard's Roost
Buzzard's Roost is an interesting piece of terrain. First off, there is mud everywhere. Then there are big water holes with plenty of mud at the bottom of them. Big rocks are also present, with drop-offs and steep, sharp, rocky climbs thrown in for good measure. Trees are also scattered in bad places, making for plenty of tight squeezes. Navigating through the Roost would take all of our competitors' skills--and some luck. Competitors had all night to prepare, as the Roost was the first obstacle they faced on the second day of competition. Scoring Buzzard's Roost is easy. Because the Roost is very difficult, we threw out the penalty points. Instead, the fastest time through won. One last thing: Buzzard's Roost carried a 30-minute time limit.

Once again, Steve's Bronco II provided lots of action. He performed lots of repairs during the night, but again lost four-wheel drive in the last hole. Steve applied lots of throttle to try to get the baby Bronco out of the hole, but it was not to be, and Steve timed out. |
Much to our surprise, Cody's longbed Chevy K30 made a quick run through Buzzard's Roost. The trees did their best to slow Cody down and modify the Chevy's body, but Cody hammered his way through the course for a fast run. |

Robert and his big F-250 were making a good run until they tried to sneak around the side of the big rock drop-off. The body got wedged up against the rock and some care had to be taken to get the Ford out in one piece. This and another small stuck ate up valuable time. |
Pete and his '87 Wrangler attacked a big, ugly ledge that was situated halfway through the Roost. Too much throttle sent him skyward, and almost over backwards. The Jeep landed hard with Pete still on the throttle, which literally sent both hubs flying. Pete also got his left arm trapped between the Jeep's rollcage and a tree when this happened, but luckily only his Jeep was broken. |

Sam and his trick Chevy took their time getting around the course. Toward the end, Sam picked up the pace and launched out of the last hole. He made a clean run, but it was only good enough for fifth place. | |
