On a cold and windy day last January, Four Wheeler's parent company, Primedia, sponsored a trail clean-up in the popular four-wheeling Mecca in the California high desert known as Johnson Valley. Home to several 5+ rated rockcrawling trails, Johnson Valley is considered one of the most challenging 'wheeling areas of Southern California, and is a favorite of rockcrawlers throughout the Southwest.

Four Wheeler joined forces with our sister 4x4 pubs-4-Wheel & Off-Road, Jp, Off Road, and 4-Wheel Drive & Sport Utility-to pitch in with the clean-up, and to document the efforts of some 76 registered attendees. Over the course of the weekend, the group retrieved a dozen dead cars (some of which were on the local Sheriff's stolen list) and easily filled three 40-cubic-yard dumpsters with offerings left behind by negligent people.

The event was sponsored by Randy's Ring & Pinion, along with generous help from Don-A-Vee Jeep, Donahoe Racing, All Pro Off Road, Currie Enterprises, Dezert People Video Series, and Toyo Tires. A special thanks goes out to the folks of the Inland Empire Four Wheelers, a local club that donated its time to fix lunch for participants.

  • Within a few hours, the first dumpster was completely full. After lunch, a third dumpster was ordered to handle the truckloads of junk found in the surrounding area.

  • Once all three dumpsters were filled, a number of participants were found in adjacent canyons showing off for our editors. Phil Schiler piloted this well-prepped TJ.
