Here, Pete's number-one mechanic and co-driver Eric "Prospect" Waite disassembles the rear differential of Pete's prerunner in the hotel parking lot. Much of Eric's hero status comes from the fact that he dedicates every waking moment of his life to Pete's race program. Every part of the truck is his responsibility. If a ring-and-pinion starts making noise, as it did on day two of the prerun, Eric is the guy under the truck addressing the problem.
