After much success in 2001 with its Lake Amador, California, Put Up or Shut Up Rockcrawling competition, the California Rockcrawling and Off-Road Championship Series (CalROCS) came back for more. Starting off the 2002 season at Lion's Pride Park in Lucerne Valley, California, the event billed as The Battle for Chimney Rock brought a ton of rockcrawling action, plenty of impossible feats made to look easy, and more than its share of spectacular rollovers.
The event took place over a three-day period with competitors being eliminated as they tried to advance to the final rounds. Using multiple obstacles laid out by course designer Bob Roggy, CalROCS officials led the competitors through each stage with amazingly few complications, which was a major deal, seeing as all three classes were on the course at the same time on Saturday. Event sponsors included 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, JP Off Road, CTM Racing Products, All Pro Off Road, The Off Road General Store, Pro Comp Tires, J.E. Reel Drivelines, Donny's Off Road World, Kargo Master, Genuine Steel, Shaffer's Off Road, Genuine Gear, Grady's Extreme Off Road, Explorer Pro Comp, and JKS Manufacturing. CalROCS continued its season with Madness at Moon Rocks, which was held in Reno May 10-12, and it will finish up the season in September.
