The sport of four-wheel rockcrawling has hit America by storm, and rock fever is getting hotter by the year. The First Annual NeuROC Rockcrawling championships was held at Paragon Adventure Park in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, and the action was as smoking as the spectator turnout for the event. Paragon Adventure Park boasts some of the toughest rock trails America has to offer, making it a great location for the NeuROC competitors to flaunt their 'wheeling skills. The extremely technical and boulder-strewn trails were more than a challenge for the seasoned and first-time competitors.
The event was divided into three classes: Modified Stock, Pro-Modified, and Open Unlimited. Scoring was based on a point system, and the team (driver and spotter) with the lowest point score after the two days of competition won their class. Teams generated points for the following infractions: 1 point for stopping, 1 point for backing, 10 points for touching a gate (each obstacle is marked with a gate), 10 points for the use of tools, 30 points for winching, 50 points for breakdown time (45 minutes of breakdown time per day), and 40 points for timing out on a course. If a team did not attempt a gate and bypassed it, 50 points were issued, and 5 bonus points if the spotter is riding in the vehicle when the team completes and obstacle. If the spotter leaves the vehicle after the team starts the obstacle, 5 penalty points will be issued.
Saturday morning, the competitors made their way to the 10 designated course trailheads. The courses ranged from difficult to extreme, providing the ultimate stage for guaranteed action. Throughout the two-day event, cheers, whoops, and hollers could be heard throughout the heavily forested hills of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The axle-snapping action was only interrupted by a competitor's machine limping to the sidelines for a quick trail repair. The First Annual NeuROC Rockcrawling Championship was a huge success for competitors and spectators alike, making way for another thrilling event next year.
