This bucket was the means of transporting ore, workers, and equipment among the five levels of shafts and tunnels in the mine. The vertical shaft is 450 feet deep. The bucket was raised and lowered using a monster-sized hoist that was powered by a gasoline engine. Two miners would ride in the bucket at a time, well within each others' personal space.
