Welcome to the Miller House kitchen! Tom Miller worked for Mono Mills, a company that brought Jeffrey pine to Bodie. This house and many others feature products from these local lumber companies. At their peak, 19th-Century mines of northern Nevada and eastern California culled huge tracts of timber from the region. Much of today's barren high desert was actually tree-covered forest prior to the mining era. Timber was vital for mine shoring, building construction, transportation needs and heating homes.
