Jerome is about a half-hour outside of Sedona. It's a former mining town that produced 800 million dollars' worth of copper over 70 years. The mines closed in 1953 and the town was largely abandoned until the late '70s when artists set up studios and shops in the old buildings. Today Jerome is a tourist destination and a place to buy works of art.
