You can walk around on the crossover station's deck, but you do so at your own risk. The summit crossover station, together with the nearby tender's cabin, was stabilized and partially restored via an effort coordinated through the BLM's Bishop Field Office. Among the volunteers who helped with the project was the Gear Grinders of Ridgecrest 4WD club. The Gear Grinders transported lumber to the site, a task that took three days. We found some fresh lumber stacked under the station, waiting to be installed.
