Fly Canyon proved challenging and difficult for travelers. Livestock struggled between the steep, rocky walls of this passageway. The reprieve of Soldier and Mud Meadows quickly vanished. Rocks on the floor made the going tough. Wagons were lowered from the rim of the canyon by ropes, a process that took hours, sometimes days.
