Off Road Race Trucks Let Loose on Sand Sports Super ShowPosted in Events on September 27, 2013 Comment (0)
Expo season has officially kicked off and this year, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks were going to host a few rounds of racing right in the parking lot of the Orange County Fairgrounds. To top it all off, Robby Gordon and SST also set up a class 1400 prerunner race as well as a jump contest to go along with all the weekend’s high octane action.
Normally we’d only be able to see some of these trucks racing out at one of the Best In The Desert races or flying across the back roads of Baja but this time we got to see these trucks battle it out in wheel to wheel action in front of an amped up roaring crowd.
Dan Vance qualified in first place and held on to the lead in his orange Total Chaos 1400 Toyota Pickup during both exhibition races he was in. half the trucks ran a qualifying race before battling it out under the lights much to the amusement of the Sand Sports Super Show crowd.
Robby Gordon powered his way with authority to a first place podium finish in his Speed Energy SST race truck. Watching these trucks power-slide across pavement was just as exciting as watching them launch their SST trucks off the man-made jumps at full speed.
We didn’t think we’d see any more action after Robby Gordon crossed the finish line with the first round win for the weekend but as luck would have it, the dozer came out and set up a pretty decent dirt launch for the jump contest. The distances that Robby Gordon jumped his SST were mind blowing and the landings weren’t of the smooth variety either since the landing led contestants to a rough set of whoops. We’re really not sure how these guys managed to not destroy their race trucks after landing in the two foot rollers but they sure put on one hell of a show!
Check out all the awesome action from the first ever live off road competition at the Sand Sports Super Show!
