Lots of West Coast wheelers think that East Coast wheelers do things different, and from what we've seen, wheelers in Florida are different from everyone. When it comes to big trucks, big tires, and big fun, no one tops Florida. These guys play in deep mud and build trucks accordingly. Then when they get tired of hucking loads of slop with their 40-inch-and-taller tires, they start hooking their rear bumpers to sleds and even each other.
We first saw these shenanigans on a DVD from Trucks Gone Wild, and realized we had to go check it out for ourselves. What we found was a wide array of mud trucks from little Suzukis to fullsize 4x4s with the majority of the big kids all running 2 1/2-ton Rockwell axles and big, bigger, or really, really big tires. Check out what we saw at the Lakeland Motor Speedway and watch for features on some other trucks from Florida in future issues. Many of the trucks you see in this article run front lift blocks, and 4-Wheel & Off-Road does not recommend using front lift blocks on vehicles that are driven on the street. However, most of these trucks are trailered to and from their off-road destinations.
