A Remote Oregon Trail system
Deep in a canyon, deep in the middle of Oregon, are a handful of trails that can lay a serious whoopin' on the ill-prepared. But if you show up armed for big boulders with no fear of body damage, then a weekend of good times can be yours. We recently tagged along with some Portland four-wheelers and the local film crew from 4-Locked Films (www.4lockedfilms.com) onto a few trails located on BLM land near Prineville, Oregon.
Though close to the Millican OHV area, the valley we were in is informally referred to as Area 4LF. The canyon has steep walls that are off limits to 4x4s, but that's not a worry since the floor has many gnarly rock gardens where slow traveling groups can spend all day creeping over boulders often bigger than the buggies that climb them. Most of the trails have bypasses, but even they can be difficult for the ill-equipped. Like we said, bring lockers and tough rubber and leave the crybabies who can't stand natural bodywork at home.
