We love wheelin'. That's especially true when we can hit the trail midweek, get out of town, and see some backcountry scenery. When we got an invite to join up with some of the guys from the local Nissan club for part of their annual Arizona Run, we were quickly fueled and ready for some fun.
We headed east of Phoenix, where the crew had set up camp for a week of wheeling. East of the town of Florence a myriad of trails crisscross the rugged terrain. The places to explore range from the mildest of sandy washes to some reasonably hardcore rock trails. Our quest for the day was to wind our way into, through, and out of the trail named after the revered bluesy rocker.
Elvis would prove to be a short but entertaining trail. We ventured through its obstacles with a variety of vehicles, from mini trucks to a couple of fullsize Blazers. The rocky ledges made for some good crawling, and we motored slowly through some tight spots and over some axle-grabbing rocks. Our only mishap of the day was a few small sheetmetal crinkles, so we'd say it was a great day in the dirt. We had found Elvis, and he gave us a grand reception!
