The local food is as interesting as anywhere in the Third World. Out in the sticks we were still fortunate to have the local cuisine hand-picked by Marai for the local flavor and a true Egyptian experience rather than the standard tourist fare. The art and culture gradually slipped into more of a Middle Eastern feel than Hispanic as we traveled farther south toward Sudan.
