We carefully recorded our gas consumption for later analysis, but to no avail. The variables of fuel level and inconsistent jerry-can levels, as well as sand consistencies, foiled any attempt to get coherent results. In other words, we got 10-15 mpg during the whole trip. We also were fighting contaminated and dirty fuel from various sources, and often poured the gas through an old shirt as a makeshift filter.
