We made our way across Ocala National Forest. The 383,000-acre area holds the world’s largest contiguous sand pine scrub forest. As we traveled, we saw evidence of previous forest fires and the danger was currently elevated due to the relatively dry spring conditions. The area is known as being popular for black bears, but we saw few during the time of year we wheeled here.
