Pismo Beach 2013 Huckfest

Talk about drawing a crowd! Where 10,000 people were expected to show, 20,000 arrived. And unfortunately, a few thousand unfortunate people didn't make it into the Oceano Dunes OHRVA before the gates were shut due to maximum capacity. In fact, some of our camera crew were included in those turned away. Huckfest garnered such a crowd this year that it hit the Pismo Beach/Oceano area like a flash flood. Roads were literally clogged for hours outside the sand dunes as thousands upon thousands of people tried to get to Huckfest 2013 to see prerunners, Trophy Trucks, and even a monster truck, take to the sky.

For the first time ever, day passes sold out by 9:30am. Camping passes were sold out long before the Labor Day weekend hit. So many people hit the nearby Chevron station that the corporate office had to made an emergency call to the station and told them to turn off the pumps due to a massive leak. There was no leak—just the busiest day in 30 years for them.

We have no doubt next year will be busy, too, so make your reservations as soon as next year's Huckfest date is announced. But we also have no doubt everyone will be more prepared for the ensuing crowd, and visitors, enthusiasts, and spectators will not have to wait so much next year.

Mike Higgins came all the way from Michigan to pull off the longest jump of the day at 169 feet.
