Making History in Epic Fashion
If you have had the misfortune of not hearing about this talented driver, the problem has just been solved. This guy's exploits are insane! He won the 2012 Mega Truck International Throttle King Championship, and he travels the country destroying his rigs in front of huge crowds. He also works on and drives monster trucks for a living. If that's not enough, he won't be forgotten now that he's permanently etched his name in the mega/mud truck world spotlight. Cory Rummell of Going Deep Mud Racing is officially the first guy to pull off a 360-degree backflip in a mega truck.
It wasn't that long ago when successfully flipping a vehicle was thought to be impossible. Today, backflips are commonplace in motocross freestyle events. Travis Pastrana is one of the pioneers of the backflip, and now we can add Cory's name to the list of motorsports drivers who've pulled off this amazing feat. After Cory studied monster truck videos for hours and did a lot of planning, he took his time retrofitting his truck for the stunt. He beefed up the rollcage and replaced old safety equipment throughout the truck with topnotch gear—Cory was ready to rock 'n' roll.
His first attempt was last year at Yankee Lake in Ohio at the Halloween event. The flip flopped, but that didn't stop him. He wanted that flip even more. Finally, at a Trucks Gone Wild event in Hale, Michigan, Cory was able to make history. In epic fashion and on only his second attempt ever, he completed a full backflip, achieving rock star status in the mega truck world.
Cory wanted to give a shout-out and thanks to Rob Streeter of the Michigan Mud Jam in Hale for letting him make his second attempt at the park. He would also like to thank his two main Powermaster Alternators and Starters, and Overtime CNC Performance for their continued help and support.
