The Champion Mill boiler, set in bricks at about 11,000 feet in elevation, is part of a mining complex that was still in operation until about 1919. It produced gold, silver, galena, and pyrite—big-ticket items back then. Shipping costs eventually overrode the profit margin, and the mill closed up tight, leaving a lot for us to see. The club reminds everyone to respect public lands and preserve what is left of our cultural history.
