Oregon is often associated with rain, and with all that rain you’re bound to get mud -- a lot of it. So what better place to have a mud event than Oregon? Each March the Santiam 4WD Association puts on Mud Fest, a muddy, dirty, sloppy good time held on private land outside of Sweet Home, Oregon. The event attracts all kinds of rigs from around the Pacific Northwest: small Suzuki Samurais, massive deuce-and-a-halfs, custom-built big-block mud buggies on ag tires, bone-stock 1950s pickups.

"Mud Fest is a great place for the whole family to get dirty"

Mud Fest is a great place for the whole family to get dirty. Tickets sell out quickly for this popular event, and each year you’ll see familiar faces and new attendees ready for a day in the mud. There was even a wedding proposal! It rained nearly all day during the event, which in many place would be considered bad luck. However, at Mud Fest it means more mudslinging and more excitement. Yes, the Ford Super Duty can get it done in the mud too. Boggers, lift, lots of throttle, and go!

Portland’s Chris Duffin brought his Kubota turbodiesel-powered Suzuki Samurai to the mud. Although the truck might be small, it’s big on capability thanks to 37-inch Iroks, Toyota axles, fully hydro steering, a four-link setup, FOA coilovers up front, Fox air shocks out back, and a stretched 101-inch wheelbase.
