The General Tires/NORRA Mexican 1000 is officially underway as the motorcycles have roared off toward El Rosario. Ranging from 1970’s era Triumph’s and Husky’s to new KTM rally bikes, the motorcyclist’s will first transit the 28 miles to Santo Tomas before starting the special speed section of 144 miles to San Quintin. The first day will end with a 32.4-mile transit section into El Rosario. All told, the riders will be in the saddle for 204.40 miles.

All of the entered cars line the road in front of the convention center, and some famous faces were there. Here, multi-time Baja winner Mark Stahl stands with the equally famous Ivan Stewart truck that Stahl will drive in the 1000.

Tomorrow’s totals will jump dramatically as Day 2 total miles are 415.40 with 224.90 of that being of the special speed section type. All of the bikers got a rousing cheer from the crowd when the were flagged off the line, but none more that the Yellow Jackets on their 1970 Triumph.

The cars and trucks will follow tomorrow morning with a 7am start time, so check back tomorrow for more information on the 2015 running of the General Tires NORRA Mexican 1000.

The crowd went wild when the Yellow Jackets Triumph left the line.
