The Petersen Museum is set to re-open in a few short days, after being closed for over a year while undergoing a $125 million investment and a stunning renovation. We were able to get early access to check out the new digs of the famous Petersen museum, and thanks to the fantastic associate curator get a behind the scenes tour of “The Vault.”

“The Vault” refers to the basement of the Petersen where vehicles that aren’t currently on display are stored, as well as where certain vehicles are wrenched on or restored. Mr. Petersen’s awesome Jeep CJ-6 is currently residing in the basement and we were able to get some photos, because we know you love old iron as much as we do! The basement will re-open for tours in January of 2016 and you can see the vast amount of rare and unique vehicles that reside in the middle of Los Angeles with your own eyes.

Even though most cars and trucks that are in the Petersen museum aren’t 4-wheel drive, the automotive history that is stored in this uniquely designed building is well worth making the trip for. With multi-million dollar Rolls Royce’s, rare movie cars, well restored Bugatti’s, and trucks designed for work, there is something for the auto lover in all of us. For more information of visiting The Petersen museum and what vehicle are on display visit www.petersen.org for more information.
