It is cool to see old tech still out there and not only working, but working well. Rich Banfield of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, brought his ’86 CJ-7 out for a day in the woods. The 258ci inline-six still provides the grunt and feeds a T-18. From there power goes to a Dana 300 T-case and out to a pair of Dana 44 axles. The front axle was cut down and swapped-in out of a Scout, while the rear axle is the factory-original Dana 44. Both are fitted with 3.73 gears and lockers, although Rich didn’t tell us what kind. The 4-inch suspension lift and 1-inch body lift combine to clear room for the 33-inch TrXus tires.
