From there, we went out into the Great Salt Lake near the town named for it, Salt Lake City, Utah. We were about 20 miles into this dirt road that extends into the lake, looking for a way around it, when a thunderstorm hit. We didn’t stay around to try to figure out why the water was red—the middle of a lake was not where we wanted to be while the lightning was flying.
