Once we decided that a repair might be possible, we put the bottle jack between the now loosened chain and the axlehousing. Now extending the jack would push the centersection up while the chain pulled down on the axletubes. We also needed some brake-parts cleaner to clean off what gear oil had oozed out of the axle. We tracked down a can from our pal Mark Mathews in the 4 Wheel Parts big rig. Our friend and occasional Jp freelance writer, Trent McGee, went in search of several high-nickel welding rods to weld the axletube back to the cast housing.
