SEMA 2015: It Was Aftermarket Heaven For Off-Roaders In Las Vegas

SEMA used to be all about the hot rod. We can remember a time when all you would see were ’32 Ford’s and parts for them. Sure, there was an off-road based room that had parts and pieces, but mostly off-road was limited to that one room (and the off-road stuff didn’t even fill that room). The times have changed though, and this year there were hundreds of off-road based companies producing parts and showing truly amazing feature vehicles.

Now don’t get us wrong; we love us some hot rods and muscle cars, but as dedicated off-roaders, we are delighted to see not only great dirt based feature vehicles in Vegas, but there seemingly has been an explosion of off-road new products and parts available for us in the dirt-based community.

Companies are realizing that the off-road segment is alive and well, and they’re doing their best to supply us with the things that we need. The popularity of vehicles like the Ford Raptor have been a driver for many suspension companies, and the advent of the LED has been a boon to light companies. There were a lot of LED’s at SEMA this year.

Tire companies have really come alive recently as General debuted a new 37-inch Grabber, Cooper (who also produces Mickey Thompson and Dick Cepek off-road tires) had their latest Discoverer and BFGoodrich now offers their KO series for UTV’s. All are huge news, but other companies have been redesigning items such as safety gear, tie downs and other possibly mundane items that everyone needs to make their trail time a success. Things such as a new switching panel may not be too sexy, but they’re things that we need to work well and always.

We are presenting 50 new products here. We wanted to show off some of the truly killer off-road feature vehicles that this years SEMA show offered. Some were just awesome, though there was a trend this year for lifted 4x4’s that had way to much bling for our taste. They had huge lifts, paint jobs that were way over the top and tires that had sidewalls that looked like they’d be more at home at Road America than Baja, but hey, we applaud the effort.

So take a look at what was being offered and know that things are looking up for us off-roaders when it comes to having plenty of choices when building your rig. SEMA is relevant to us too, and many companies have gotten the word.

Who says that off-road vehicles aren’t great looking? This Chevy is Hella good looking (see what we did there?).

You can expect to see this awesome F2000 Ford on our cover soon.

Kibbetech’s Chevy is a behemoth that can tackle off-road with the whole family.

BJ Baldwin’s Chevy Blazer is always a fixture at the Rigid booth.

Patriot’s El Camino is a truck that we’d love to see competing at NORRA.

We love this matte finished Toyota. Wrap technology has come a long way in a short period of time.

As with recent years, the SEMA show filled all of the inside rooms to capacity.

Shelby’s getting into the off-road segment in a big way with their supercharged F150.

Michael Gaughan, Curt LeDuc, Jerry Penhall, Shannon Campbell and Chris Collard and were inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall Of Fame in a celebration that took place the night before SEMA began. We congratulate all of these worthy choices.

Curt got more that just an induction while at the event!

SCORE again had their “SCORE Experience” and again, it was a huge success.

SCORE held their Baja qualifying at the local track, and the trucks actually left the Experience and rolled down the city streets on the way to the track. Amazing to see these full race vehicles rolling through town.

Want to drive around the world? Turtle Expeditions had a very cool Ford based adventure vehicle on hand that would make the trip easily.

Another matte finished beauty was this 4x4 F150 that was in the Anzo booth.

This vintage Dodge Charger harkens back to when Baja races saw a huge diversity of race vehicles. Anything and everything ran fast off-road and we really hope to see this run at NORRA.

Another killer vintage vehicle was this 4x4 Chevy Apache. We’re not sure, but we think that this is a NAPCO equipped truck.

Ford had plenty going on outside to keep the show goers entertained and the excitement level high.

Honda is getting back into off-road racing, and had this racer prominently displayed in their booth.

Another cool truck we hope to bring you soon is this Dodge Minotaur.

We loved this GoPro Chevy. It looked like just the thing we need to tool around Pismo Beach.
