It started with a crazy idea in 2015. Host an all women’s rally across the western deserts with zero electronic navigation allowed. The Rebelle Rally was born. 36 female teams are racing from Northern Nevada to the dunes of Southern California using latitudes and longitudes given to them each morning of the Rally and they have to plot the coordinates on paper maps. The only electronic device they are allowed to use is a handheld tracker to mark their arrival at a checkpoint.
Green checkpoints are clearly marked with a course worker and green flag. Blue checkpoints are simply a blue colored flag or a marking somewhere in the desert. Black are secretive with no markings. If the team thinks they are within the radius they hit the button on their handheld device. Points are earned for each checkpoint they clear. If their navigation skills are correct for the secretive black checkpoints they will be scored points. If their map calculations are off, no points are scored.
