Four Wheeler of the Year 2017: Day 3 Recap And Photo GalleryPosted in Events on December 8, 2016
We’ve been hard at work (yes, really) on the Four Wheeler of the Year 2017 competition (open to new or significantly redesigned 4x4s). We kicked off Day 3 of testing with an early morning run to Olancha Dunes for sand testing.
Olancha Dunes is an anomaly in that a large amount of fine sand sits at the south end of what used to be the Owens Lake. It makes for a perfect testing facility for putting the new trucks and SUVs in the sand to see which vehicle can make it back out. What vehicles are we testing? SUV of the Year (SUVOTY) has two competitors, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and the Nissan Armada. Pickup Truck of the Year (PTOTY) has seven competitors, the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ford Super Duty FX4, Nissan Titan PRO-4X, Nissan Titan XD (gas) PRO-4X, Ram Power Wagon, Ram 2500 Off-Road Package, and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
Of course, we didn’t just gently drive them in and back out. We put them to the test to gather info on how the cooling systems work, how the traction control systems function, and much more.
We won’t lie, we had a blast doing it, and even when we had to dig a few of them out, we did it with a smile on our face (and sand in our shoes!).
Once done there, we headed north to Bishop, California, but did some fun two-track trails along the way. On those trails we found snow, water, and rocks.
We have more planned for tomorrow, so tune back in to see what mayhem we get these spanking new vehicles into.
During Day 3 the staff shot loads of photos and here’s a gallery of some of the goings-on. Day 4 will find us in the dirt and snow again as testing progresses, so stay tuned and remember to follow along on all of the Four Wheeler Network social media sites for on-the-fly updates!
