2017 Tierra Del Sol – Day Two

We made the rounds of the vendor area on Friday at the 55th annual Tierra Del Sol (TDS). While there’s plenty to see among the various exhibitors and vendors, the real action is at the nearby obstacle course and out on the surrounding trails in the Ocotillo Wells OHV recreational area. Off-road enthusiasts sporting some extensively modified machines tried their hands at some of the grueling obstacle courses which would make mincemeat of stock 4x4s, and to a certain extent, they did, with more than one vehicle needing to be winched out of the course.

Although Jeeps of varying vintages and modifications dominated the vehicular landscape at TDS, as usual, Toyotas had a strong showing, with many just as modified as the Jeeps and just as capable, whether by virtue of hardware or driver skill. Of course, the highlight of the TDS event for many, especially children, is the fireworks show on Saturday night. This year’s fireworks certainly didn’t disappoint. It’s easy to see why TDS has been held continuously for more than five decades and shows no signs of slowing down. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a hardcore rockcrawler or weekend-warrior 4x4 enthusiast. We can’t wait until next year’s event! Check out our photo gallery below!
