SEMA 2017: The SD126 Super Duty Demands Attention #TENSEMA17Posted in Events on October 31, 2017
A few years ago Four Wheeler ran a feature on a bright orange ’01 Ford F-350 regular cab shortbed diesel truck outfitted with fiberglass flares, BDS leaf springs and 44-inch Boggers. Known as Stubby, the truck oozed cool factor and made the cover of the May 2012 issue.
Fast-forward five years and the team at BDS Suspension decided it was time to bring back that type of build, but take it to the next level. Dubbed Project SD126, this 126-inch wheelbase ’17 Ford Super Duty was unveiled at the 2017 SEMA show, and it has all the right stuff to not only look good, but also perform off-road.
Starting with the suspension, the BDS four-link front and trailing arm rear feature FOX 2.5 DSC coilovers and 3.0 quadruple bypass shocks at each corner. Under the hood, the 6.7L Power Stroke turbodiesel received an EZ Lynk tuner, S&B intake, and Diamond Eye exhaust. Custom driveshafts from JE Reel send the power to the Dana 60/300M axles out of a late-model F-450 with 4.30:1 gearing. For rubber, the truck is fitted with 42-inch BFGoodrich KR2 tires on 20x11 Stazworks two-piece wheels. Moving on to the exterior, the body panels are from McNeil Racing and include 6-inch flares, fiberglass fenders, and bedsides. There’s also an RK Sport hood and Rogue Racing bumpers. All are finished in PPG Night Orange metallic paint. A Warn 12,000-pound winch and Rigid LED lighting are ready when the need arises. Inside the cab a custom rollbar/console was built to mount PRP 5.3 harnesses and seats. A full Kicker audio system was integrated along with a retractable Magellan TRX7 GPS unit.
It’s great to see a manufacturer like BDS take on a build like this, and don’t think you've seen the last of it. We’ll have more coverage of it at the show in Ford’s booth along with an upcoming feature. In the meantime, check out the gallery of photos and the promo video.
