So what’s the big deal about tires and wheels? Well, they are only the easiest thing you can change to significantly improve the look and the on- and off-road performance of a 4x4!

In reality, most of us wouldn’t select a new 4x4 based solely on the tires and wheels it rolls on, but many of us do put swapping the tires and wheels at the top of the modification list. But what if you didn’t have to? Many new 4x4s now come with off-road packages that include dirt-worthy tires and wheels, among other notable off-road accoutrements. Long gone are the days of basic, ugly, low-buck painted steel wheels and street tires. Even the most hard-core off-road enthusiasts would be envious of some of the OE tire and wheel offerings. Of course, it’s always an added bonus when a truck or SUV comes from the factory with good-looking dirt treads that can be rolled right into your monthly payment.

The 2019 SUV and Pickup Truck of the Year competitors are shod with a wide range of rolling stock. The tires these 4x4s come with are generally selected by the manufacturers to meet a variety of on- and off-road conditions. You’ll certainly recognize several of the brands as key players in the off-road tire marketplace. Some of the wheel and tire combinations are more off-road ready than others. We decided to take a closer look at each of them. Check out the following gallery. Which is your favorite wheel design and which tread pattern do you think is best for your needs?
