Jason Scherer Top Qualifier For The 2015 Nitto Tire King Of The HammersPosted in Events on February 5, 2015
Thousands of people have descended into Johnson Valley for the 2015 King of The Hammers. The Hammers have turned into a weeklong of events with moto races in the rocks, a UTV race and stock class race known as the Everyman Challenge. All eyes are on the heavy hitters of the sport. Teams have worked all year long for this storied race. Their preparation and hard work will show on race day. Two days of qualifying were held and Jason Scherer posted the fastest time of 1:59.5 in his Fox sponsored Ultra 4 car. Scherer is a former King, winning the race in 2009. Starting out front in this race can be key.
Scherer will have stiff competition. Everyone wants to be crowned King. Scherer said in a press conference held in Hammertown that the course will be more difficult than in years past. “The Key to success is coming out and being prepared early” said Scherer. He came out to Johnson Valley a few months ago and did some extensive testing. Shannon Campbell has won this race twice and a favorite for the win. Other fast drivers like Tom Ways are poised and ready. All eyes will also be on defending king Loren Healy. Heal will start 13th. Healy’s crew has been scrambling to get parts to replace a broken transmission as well as other parts after a crazy qualifying run. Erik Miller is starting just next to Scherer and he is ready as well. Trophy truck and shortcourse veteran Rob MacCachren is also here. MacCachren starts the race in 18th One thing is for sure, there are going to be some incredible battles at the Hammers.
