Soon after Glenn Yamashiro brought home his brand-new '99 F-250 Super Duty, he had a wrench in hand and was poised to begin modifications. His wife, Shannon, gave her blessing to the project as long as nothing extreme was done. She should've defined extreme to Glenn, because his definition was obviously quite different from hers. This is because Glenn has more than 21 years of experience building quality trucks and he's currently employed by one of the premier four-wheel-drive shops in Southern California, Off Road Unlimited, in Burbank. Glenn modified the Super Duty with a vengeance, leaving no part unanalyzed. This approach wasn't extreme to Glenn. It's just the normal way he builds trucks.
The V-10-powered Ford has... The V-10-powered Ford has a look all its own thanks to a pair of Hannemann fiberglass front fenders, a Macro Automotive Metal Chrome grille and an X-treme Toyz lightbar that holds four massive Lightforce 240 HID driving lights. The 6.8L SOHC engine has been treated to a K&N Generation II intake and a Gibson after-cat 3-inch-diameter exhaust system. A TransGo shift kit was added to the 4R100 transmission to help lengthen its life. | The rear axle has much in... The rear axle has much in common with the front axle, including Atlas 11-inch-lift leaf springs, dual Bilstein 7100 Series remote-reservoir shocks and 5.38 gears. Like the front, the rear axle was fitted with ORU slotted brake rotors and polished aluminum differential covers. Specific to the rear is an X-treme Toyz dual shock-mount and crossmember kit and a pair of X-treme Toyz Slip-Trac traction bars. Both the front and rear axles were fitted with a pair of custom High Angle Driveline driveshafts. | Everything you need and nothing... Everything you need and nothing you don't was the mantra for the interior mods. Since the interior was plenty comfortable and functional, Glenn added just an Auto Meter triple-gauge A-pillar pod with Auto Meter Sport Comp oil pressure, water temperature and transmission temperature analog gauges, along with a few Trenz billet dress-up items. |
The heart of the front suspension is a pair of custom Atlas 11-inch-lift leaf springs with Con-Ferr articulating shackles. The Dana 50 front axle has been upgraded with Randy's Ring & Pinion 5.38:1 gears and Warn hubs. A pair of Bilstein 7100 Series remote-reservoir shocks resides at each wheel. The shocks are held in place by X-treme Toyz front shock hoops and lower shock brackets and Deist Safety limiting straps keep them from over-extending. The stock track bar was pitched to the curb in favor of a beefy X-treme Toyz track bar. The tall lift and substantial 44-inch tires created the need for some serious steering upgrades, so an ORU crossover steering system was installed, along with ORU's hydraulic ram assist.
Some of the most unique exterior...
Some of the most unique exterior modifications are found in the bed of the Super Duty. There's an X-treme Toyz in-bed bar and spare-tire mount. The bed is covered by a versatile Can-Back soft-top canopy.
