Over 28 years of production, a lot of different engines rested under this distinctive hood. The most common in latter days was the AMC 360ci V-8. This engine originally came from AMC and was developed in 1966 as a 290ci. It was also built in 304-, 343-, 390- and 401ci versions, though Jeep only used the 304-, 360- and 401ci powerplants. In the most common two-barrel form, these engines cranked out just 144 net hp. The earlier 360 four-barrel made 195 hp and the 401 four-barrel cranked out 215 ponies. View Related Article
