July 1984: Ghostbusters topped the box office charts. The Olympic Games opened in Los Angeles. Some poor sap named Mondale was tagged by the Democrats to run against President Reagan. And something called the "Macintosh" was first being sold by a tiny company in California called Apple Computer. At Four Wheeler, July '84 was a 190-page smorgasbord of tech, tests and travel, and new products-specifically, our annual guide to New Tires. There's nothing fancy here-not much detail or tech data, just a good old-fashioned look at their treads and sidewalls, 30 in all. While most of these tires weren't available in any size bigger than a 31x10.50, and 35s were considered massive for the time, some hints of the future were already in store-even back then, for instance, you could get a TSL Super Swamper in a 42-inch size for old-school 15-inch rims. While a number of these tires aren't made anymore, there are surprisingly quite a few of them that are still around and helping 4x4s 'wheel on trails across the U.S. Can you tell which ones are still being made?
