When Justin Ferrigno of Northridge, California, purchased his 2001 model F-250 Super Duty he had only one thing in mind: building a rig that would make heads turn. Not only did Jason build one of the coolest Super Dutys around, he made it into a functional, capable 4x4 that he isn't afraid to get dirty. Jason proved that to us time after time by plunging his truck into a serious mud bog for our cameras, flinging mud from here all the way to Montana.
The powerful Ford Triton V-10 underhood is tweeked with a Power Raid throttle-body spacer, ram air and K & N filter. To help the mill exhale, it has been plumbed with Borla headers, after-cat exhaust and three-inch pipes with stainless tips. Dual Optimas provide extra juice to the electrical system. The power threads through a stock tranny and T-case into a Dana 50 front axle, featuring a Tru-Trac limited slip and Warn hubs.
The stock Ford Sterling rearend is locked by Detroit. Both axles are loaded with 4.56:1 gears, a ratio beneficial for turning 40-inch Super Swampers on 16.5x12 Weld Super Single wheels. A custom suspension system was designed and built by X-treme Toyz in Burbank, California, and features 10-inch-lift National leaf springs front and rear, with air bags out back. Dual Bilstein 7100 shocks with remote reservoirs and custom hoops are attached to each corner to help control suspension movement.
A custom hydraulic ram steering assist with a crossover steering setup was implemented to keep this rig heading in the right direction. Exterior modifications on Jason's Super Duty include a custom hood with dual scoops, rollcage by X-treme Toyz featuring a Hi-Lift jack holder, and Warn side-steps. A Banshee Light Bar from Reaper Racing is bolted to the front and carries four six-inch Dick Cepek Super Offroader driving lights. A Warn 12000 winch and Firestone compressor with an auxiliary air tank was added for recovery and inflation purposes. Inside, Jason installed a killer audio/video system which features a Pioneer AVM 9000 stereo unit with a seven-inch screen, Pioneer six-disc DVD changer, TV tuner, and 15-disc CD player. Three Crossfire amplifiers, along with eight Image Dynamics 6 1/4-inch dome tweeters and two 10-inch woofers, complete the system. Other interior mods include custom leather seats and steering wheel by Custom Trim in Van Nuys, California.
We've received photos of a lot of custom Super Dutys recently here at Four Wheeler. What convinced us most that Jason's was something special was its combination of style, practicality, and pure function. Oh, and the fact that he's more than willing to get it dirty.
