Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - Helldorado

The Wrangler Rubicon has become wildly successful since its introduction, proving there are plenty of vehicle buyers who would like a competent, out-of-the-box backcountry Jeep that has great on-highway road manners. Many current Jeep owners have traded or sold their current Wranglers to step up and purchase a new Rubicon. In fact, so many have done this that it's difficult to order a new Rubicon equipped as you would like it. Some people have been waiting as long as six months, with no delivery in sight!

There are also current TJ owners who want to upgrade, but they are hesitant about selling or trading in their "baby" while there's a chance they will never get their Rubicon. Currie Enterprises has stepped in to help these current Wrangler owners by offering a complete turnkey TJ package for those who want the benefits of a competent backcountry Jeep without the hassles and bugs of a do-it-yourself project.

The Jeep Rubicon is named for the great Northern California Sierra trail that has been synonymous with backcountry vehicle travel throughout most of the 20th century. Currie Enterprises named its Wrangler package after another tough trail - Moab, Utah's, Helldorado. Just as a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon makes easy work of the Rubicon Trail, a Currie Jeep Helldorado can traverse Lower and Upper Helldorado with little difficulty. Many with TJs find out their used Jeeps are only worth $8,000 to $12,000 when they go to sell them. By keeping it and spending the price of the Helldorado package (about $17,000), they end up with a Jeep that works even better than a Rubicon and all for about the same price.

What makes the Helldorado special is its suspension and front and rearends. Through years of backcountry experience and rockcrawling competitions, Currie Enterprises has come up with a TJ suspension that really works, whether crawling in the rocks or speeding down the interstate. The front suspension incorporates Currie's Johnny Joint upper and lower control arms using stock bracketry. The rear uses custom Currie bracketry; triangulating the upper control arms and using lengthened J-arm lower control arms, all with Johnny Joint ends. An important addition to the suspension, and what ties everything together, is the Currie AntiRock adjustable sway bar for the frontend, as well as the rearend. Currie High Pinion 9-inch front and rearends, with gearing and lockers of choice, make the Helldorado a TJ to be reckoned with. Goodyear 315/75R16 Wrangler MTRs are mounted on 16x8-inch Mickey Thompson Classic II rims with Champion beadlocks.

Currie also makes a complete line of bumpers and body armor. The Helldorado package includes front and rear Rock Crawler bumpers, as well as Tail Bonez rear quarter protection. Rock Ribz rocker panel protection keeps rocks at bay, while the Noze Guard front hoop protects vital underhood components, such as the radiator, in the event of a rollover. A custom crossmember/skidplate not only protects the center of the Jeep but also affords 3 more inches of ground clearance! The 10-gauge stainless steel 24-gallon gas tank is tough and (almost) indestructible, adding much needed range to the Helldorado.

The Helldorado you see here has a few extras that are also available on request. An Atlas Highlander transfer case has been installed, along with Pro Comp MX6 adjustable gas-charged shock absorbers. Tom Woods Custom Driveshafts supplied the front and rear long-spline CV driveshafts, and super-strong CTM U-joints were used with Warn hardened axles. A Warn HS9500i winch was mounted up front so Upper Helldorado could be traversed with ease. The '03 Wrangler seating has additional headrests on top of the high-back seats, but they block rear vision, so John Currie had an upholstery shop remove the headrests and cover the backs and sides of the seating with high-quality vinyl, which is easier to clean in dusty environments.

We drove the Helldorado from Anaheim, California, to Hurricane, Utah, for the photo shoot. There were no vibrations at freeway speed and the Jeep worked great on the highway. We drove the Jeep around town and in the rocks and can report that it's the best all-around TJ we have ever driven. The balance and control of the suspension is amazing.

If you already own a TJ and would like to turn it into a Helldorado Edition Wrangler, contact Currie Enterprises. The company will be happy to discuss the package and any options you desire. The Helldorado Edition Wrangler truly lives up to its name and is able to take on the toughest trails easily and in comfort.
