Face it: Stuck sucks. It makes your friends laugh at you, it damages your ego, and it's not always the best for that tired rig of yours, either. It also happens to just about everyone who has ever attempted to drive a vehicle off-road. No matter how much money one throws at axles, an engine, tires, and a suspension, there will always be an obstacle more than willing to tear your 4x4 to shreds and spit it out into one of the worst-stuck situations you've ever experienced. So what's the one measure you can take to ensure that your trail time will outweigh your vehicle-recovery time? Installing a high-performance winch should do the trick.

Purveyors of some of the most powerful and durable winches on the market, Warn Industries offers its 9.5xp winch to meet the demands of extreme off-road use. Boasting 9,500 pounds of pulling power, the 9.5xp is also the lightest of Warn's Ultimate Performance Series winches. A 12-volt 6hp high-output parallel series-wound motor is mated with a three-stage planetary geartrain to achieve a gear ratio of 156:1. This combination functions with a continuous-duty control pack to take on even the most demanding of pulls in extreme weather. Gaskets within the motor and end housing offer exceptional water resistance, as do the full-face contact drum seals. The 9.5xp also features a high-gloss, chip-resistant powdercoat finish over chromate-coated alloy to afford the greatest degree of corrosion resistance.

We tested the Warn 9.5xp self-recovery winch in a variety of winching situations. The unit performed flawlessly, even in difficult double-line, triple-line, and nondirectional pulls. With the longest duty cycle and fastest line speed of any Warn winch under load, the 9.5xp is a definite winner for anyone seeking a sure-fire method of putting the "stuck" behind them and getting back on the trail.
