To four-wheel-drive purists, the solid-axle means tough and rugged dependability.

When Toyota produced the last solid-axle pickup in 1985, you could possibly say that was the end of an era for Toyota's hard-core four-wheel production vehicle. We've had the pleasure of 'wheeling one of these classic rigs for the past few years. Not only is our '85 built to conquer and overcome anything out on the trail, but it was built to retain Toyota's legendary dependability.

When the truck rolled off the dealers lot way back when, it was a bone-stock standard-cab pickup, as basic and stripped as they come. Since then, the truck has undergone a wide array of extensive modifications and has morphed into the capable trail rig it is today. Custom work includes a performance-engine rebuild and work, fuel-injection conversion, axle upgrades, and body armor.
