The word on the trail and buzz throughout the industry is that Blue Torch FabWorks' exceptional fabrication skills and custom-designed vehicles are nothing short of top-shelf. This is evident by the amazingly detailed, functional, and well-engineered vehicles that roll out BTF's shop doors. As hard-core four-wheel enthusiasts turned builders, they have quickly gained a very favorable reputation.

Dan De Bose, proprietor of BTF, decided to build a shop rig to showcase not only his creative talent but also his exceptionally stout products. Now don't take us the wrong way when we say shop rig - this vehicle isn't the typical chromed-out useless show rig you see adorning the booths and parking lots of most events and shows, and rolling down the highway.

This exceedingly flawless yet capable scratch-built rig that lies before you is a testament to what can be created with DOM tubing, sheetmetal, quality components, and a penchant for perfection. It articulates, moves, crawls, goes just about anywhere, and unfortunately like all rigs, occasionally rolls over. While photographing the vehicle, it slid off the side of a large rock face; one of the 42-inch IROKs caught a rock edge and flipped it. There was an uneasy moment of silence as Dan crawled out from underneath the vehicle. We expected an angry dance and a stream of expletives. What he actually displayed was a wave of relief: The rig was finally broken in and could be 'wheeled like it was built for.

When building a vehicle of this caliber, it's not about just bending, welding, polishing, and bolting-on components. Great care was taken during its construction and Dan would like to thank a special group of sponsors for lending a hand during the build: Interco Tires, Trail Ready, PSC Extreme Steering components, Airgas, Miller Electric, Mac Tools, and High Angle Driveline.

After the vehicle's tumble, it hoisted upright and then 'wheeled the rest of the day, ferrying the participants of an event around a competition rockcrawling course. Well-built is all we have to say.
