Mercedes-Benz 1735 Fleet Truck - Ultimate Support RigPosted in Features on March 1, 2007 Comment (0)
For the second year in a row, one of the most versatile drivers in motorsports history, Robby Gordon, will be competing in the famed Dakar Rally under the Team Dakar USA banner. With a full sponsorship program that involves Hummer, Toyo Tires, and several others, Robby, the team owner and driver, and his equally experienced and respected navigator, Andy Grider, will be driving their H3 Hummer across the 6,000-mile course from Lisbon, Portugal, to Dakar, Senegal.
Flanking the Team Dakar USA dynamic duo from the front and rear will be a bevy of support vehicles built especially for this rally. Aside from the two specially equipped H1 Hummer support trucks and a Mercedes-Benz 6x6 support vehicle, this highly modified '90 Mercedes-Benz 1735 fleet truck will serve as the team's fabrication shop and hospitality truck.
For the support crew tasked with both the driving of the rig as well as the mechanical maintenance on the H3 Hummer, this truck will become their home away from home in the middle of some of the most remote and treacherous terrain in the world. Virtually everything required to sustain the team for the grueling 14-day rally will be supplied from this truck and the remaining support fleet.
With high-tech parts, support vehicles, and intelligent engineering once again converging for 2007, the new and improved H3 Hummer is a definite contender for this year's Dakar Rally title. Barring any bouts with bad luck, Team Dakar USA could be the first competitors on the podium to collect their trophies.
