A 4x4 is a 4x4 is a 4x4, right? Wrong. Some are just downright fun, and when you almost feel like you're abusing the machinery without affecting its performance, agility, and dependability, it makes riding all that much more exciting.

Now, we didn't literally abuse the '07 Yamaha Big Bear 400, but what we found while riding around one cold rainy day in Alabama was that no matter what type of horrendous conditions we pushed the Big Bear into, it motored on without hesitation. We left our testride extremely impressed with Yamaha's completely redesigned Big Bear ATV.

The Big Bear 400 has some very intriguing features. The On-Command 4WD offers fully locking front and rear differentials at the flick of a switch. The older-model Big Bear utilized front IFS and a solid rear axle. The new '07 Big Bear comes with front IFS and rear IRS suspensions, both of which are all-new. This makes the vehicle incredibly capable, responsive, and comfortable on the trail. Its excellent trail performance and ground clearance make this a go-anywhere machine.

Enhancing the performance of the Big Bear even more is a five-speed semiautomatic transmission with Reverse. For safety and control, there are dual hydraulic brakes up front and a high-tech sealed wet brake in the rear which provides consistent, long-lasting performance regardless of conditions. The machine also comes with full floorboards for comfort and safety. The included oversize ITP Mud Lite tires offer exceptional traction on any terrain and under any conditions.

The Big Bear has been a favorite for folks who love mud and wet conditions. If you've had experience with the ATV in the past, we have to tell you that the '07 Big Bear's upgrades give the machine incredible advantages in performance over its predecessor. If you're searching for what we would consider an all-terrain utility vehicle, then the staff here at 4WD&SU highly recommend you take the new Big Bear 400 for a test-spin.
