A Well-Engineered Trail And Street YJ

David Thompson of Plymouth, Michigan, has been an engineer all of his life. Now retired from Chrysler, he spends his time traveling North America to 'wheel his superb 1993 YJ Wrangler.

When we asked Dave for a list of his YJ's modifications, we received one. Boy, did we receive one. Dave sent a specification list only an engineer would produce. It describes his YJ much better than we ever could. While it was a giant PAIN to copy since all he sent us was an analog (paper) spec sheet, here it is:

Exhaust Manifold - 2000 TJ (Jet hot Coating)

Fuel System
91 octane required; 15-gallon YJ tank
Reinforced fuel tank skidplate
Hesco fuel pressure regulator set at 56 pounds
1995 5.9L injectors - Mopar Part #53030262

Frame Rework
Removed transmission crossmember skidplate, spring mount brackets, front shock brackets,rear shock studs, left front shackle bracket, and rear track bar bracket from frame.
Installed Black Diamond transmission crossmember, front upper shock brackets, front trackbar bracket and rear cross member shock bracket.
Installed and dialed-in Black Diamond coilovers front and rear.installed Black Diamond long control arms using Black Diamond bracketry
Filled in shipping holes in left front corner of frame.
Fabricated track bar support bracket from right side of frame rail to track bar bracket.
Reworked track bar. installed 3/4-inch rod end to stop track bar binding.
Fabricated 1-inch spacers for the front engine mounts to improve rear prop shaft angle.
Reworked transmission mount for change in engine angle.
