Off-Road Rant - Editorial - March 2011

It dawned on me the other night, while watching my girlfriend sidestep in high heels down a few-inch-wide strip of pavement between a tow truck and speeding freeway traffic, that the women in our lives actually do put up with a lot. More immediately, I'm thinking of all my poor ex-girlfriends who have been stranded in the middle of nowhere, been dragged to some of the seediest dives ever, ingested burning transmission fluid smoke, waited for me for hours while not knowing what happened, had to jump in mud, run from crocodiles, or had to occasionally drive me to the hospital.

I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Yes, we off-road nuts certainly know how to show a girl a good time...but it's not just the girlfriends or wives who put up with it. It's the mothers (thanks, Mom), the daughters, the sisters, and all the females in our lives who don't exactly understand why we do the stupid crap we do and yet still stand by us and support us through all of it.

Though I'm still not exactly sure why these brave women stick by our sides, take care of us when we're hurt or sick, help us when times are bad, and indulge our egos when times are good. Without them, we just wouldn't be the same guys we are right now, and we'd surely be a lot worse off without the support we see from the cuter, sweeter, and more beautiful gender.

So I'm giving my salute (as should you) to all those women and girls out there who make our lives better. We're crazy about you, and we always appreciate you...even if we forget to say it a lot of times....

Thanks for everything.
