Roof Racks for Jeep CJs

I was researching possible sources for a rack to fit on my 1982 CJ8 Scrambler and came across one in an article on your website. Any idea where the builder found or made the rack shown in the pictures? Thanks for your time.
Randy Lefler Stafford, VA

Universal roll bar mounting clamps from Axia Alloys can be used to mount just about anything to a roll bar or rollcage, including a roof rack. The clamps are available in various sizes to fit tube diameters ranging from 0.875 to 2.375 inches.

Randy, the article you are referring to appeared in the February 2007 issue and featured David Dahlberg's 1984 Jeep CJ8. The rack shown on David's CJ8 was custom built atop a custom rollcage and we don't know the exact specs of the design. If you are after a similar setup you might consider using universal roll bar clamps from Axia Alloys [(480) 216-6266, www.axiaalloys.com]. The universal roll bar clamps are available to fit various tube sizes and can be used to mount a roof rack or pretty much anything else to a rollcage. Some fabrication will likely still be required to adapt a rack to the mounts but you'll have a rack assembly that can be easily removed after it's needed or for when the top goes back on. For universal-style racks check out Garvin Wilderness Products [(619) 440-7415, www.wildernessracks.com], which offers racks in many sizes to fit numerous vehicle models. Another great source for roof mount and utility racks is Olympic 4x4 Products [(323) 726-6988, www.olympic4x4products.com], which offers many unique rack styles to fit various Jeep models.
