Meet the Jeep Malibu. The Malibu you didn’t know about. It had a fiberglass body and was built on a modified Utility frame with a 226ci six-cylinder. Several were built in both 4x4 and 4x2 configurations. A variation was the Berkeley, which had a different roofline. By late-’50s and early-’60s standards, this is a nice looking rig and probably could have made it. The question is whether it would have attained icon status 50 years down the road. If the grille looks familiar to you, sharp eyes, that’s because the Wagoneer used something similar in a ’65 restyle.
