Up front is the stock Toyota axle, which was completely rebuilt. To improve its performance it was fitted with an ARB Air Locker. The stock 4.10 gearing was retained. To improve stopping performance the axle has been fitted with a Man-A-Fre front brake kit that consists of four-piston calipers and Australian-made, heat-treated rotors with a patented cooling fin design. Warn Premium manual hubs replace the factory Toyota manual hubs and they were powdercoated to match the color scheme of the rig. The FJs front suspension uses Old Man Emu 2.5-inch-lift leaf springs and shocks as well as Man-A-Fre shackles, pins, and bushings. This combination gives the FJ an overall front lift of 3.5 inches. The factory non-power steering system was removed and replaced with Man-A-Fre’s Saginaw Power Steering Conversion Kit. Among other things, this kit simplifies the steering system and makes pointing the 32-inch BFG tires much easier.
