2011 Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited - Pneu-Magic

We've seen more than our fair share of two-dimensional rigs. You know: strong on one or two fronts, lacking on all others. The 2011 JK on these pages isn't among them. Stock V-6 aside, it's got every base covered, and some said bases are covered twice over.

Owned by Viair Corp., this JK was transformed from stock to stunning in a short eight months. The primary goal was to showcase Viair's compressors and air systems as well as throw some illumination on Wurton lights. A second goal was to make sure that the Viair air systems and Wurton lights were aboard a rig that was truly trail-worthy. Bright lights and mega pneumatic capacity aren't as helpful as they should be if they're stuck in the parking lot, so the Viair JK was equipped with some hard-hitting running gear.

The nature of the build reveals itself as soon as you give the underpinnings a glance. Stuffed with ARB Air Lockers and connected to the chassis via TeraFlex long-arm suspension systems and Fox coilovers, a pair of Currie RockJock axle assemblies ensures the JK will stand up to tough trails and abusive drivers. Forty-inch Nitto Mud Grapplers are never at a loss for traction.

Rest assured, this Jeep is ready to lend a hand. There are no fewer than eight Viair compressors on board, making this JK fully equipped to air up tires and run air tools for a whole trail run's worth of rigs. After darkness falls, the extensive collection of Wurton LED lights work equally well for lighting up the trail and for setting up camp.

Yes, this is a multi-dimensional trail rig with strength on several fronts. Inflation, illumination, and articulation: a pneu-magic combination!

Need more lights? The roof rack has two Wurton pods per side and a rear-facing 8-inch Wurton lightbar. So many lights might seem like overkill, but it’s a perfect configuration for setting up camp after dark, making trailside repairs, or seeing whatever just made that rustling sound in the bushes. RotopaX fuel cans, a Hi-Lift jack, and a shovel and an axe further equip the JK for the trail. Need more lights? The roof rack has two Wurton pods per side and a rear-facing 8-inch Wurton lightbar. The JK’s tail section shares the traits of the front: a Currie RockJock 60, TeraFlex long arms, and Fox coilover shocks and bumpstops. Both front and rear axles are equipped with ARB Air Lockers, and if you think the Air Lockers are powered by Viair compressors, you’re right. Open up the AEV heat-reduction hood and you’ll find a stock V-6 doing its best to propel things along. It’s helped by an aFe intake and a MagnaFlow exhaust. A pair of sPods makes it easy to add electrical accessories. Mounted to the brake booster is yet another Viair compressor, which makes seven if you’ve been counting. This one’s hooked up to the ARB Air Lockers and is also plumbed for an air hose. Open up the AEV heat-reduction hood and you’ll find a stock V-6 doing its best to propel things along. Two more Viair compressors are tucked inside the engine bay just behind the radiator. This is Viair’s 2on2 high-pressure 200-psi system, and it comes complete with a crossmember. Why not mount the compressors inside with the driver and passengers? Compressors are noisy in operation and they also generate heat at the compressor head. Yes, Terra Grapplers run loud on the pavement, but they also run amazingly true and have an equally impressive grip once you get in the dirt. TrailReady beadlock wheels keep the Grapplers seated, even at low psi.
